A hand-carved ethnographic walking stick crafted from a single piece of dense dark hardwood, possibly ebony or sese wood. The handle is integrated into the shaft as a rectangular open loop. Below the handle, the upper section of the shaft features intricate openwork carving depicting three stacked, stylized human figures in traditional poses. This figurative section transitions into a hand-carved spiral barley twist lower shaft. The cane terminates in a simple metal ferrule at the tip. A small white rectangular adhesive label on the handle bears the handwritten alphanumeric code 6704C. No other maker’s marks or signatures are visible.
Condition report:
The walking stick is in overall good condition. The dark wood retains a deep, consistent colour with minor surface scuffing and dust accumulation within the deeper recesses of the carving. There are no apparent cracks, chips, or losses to the delicate openwork figurative carving. The metal ferrule at the tip shows surface tarnish and wear consistent with use.
