A Late Victorian or Edwardian 18 carat yellow gold gypsy-style band ring. The tapered shank features five graduated, star-set, colourless faceted stones, likely diamonds, recessed into deep engraved star motifs. The interior of the shank bears a punch mark for “18”, indicating 18 carat gold purity. The ring weighs approximately 3.3g, providing a solid intrinsic metal value. The width of the band at the widest point is approximately 6mm. This style of “gypsy” setting was highly popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries for its durability and understated elegance. Valuation basis: recent auction sales of similar antique 18ct gold star-set rings, typically fetching a premium over the current gold melt value of approximately £198.
Condition report:
The ring is in good antique condition. The gold surface exhibits a fine patina of light scratches and minor surface wear consistent with age. One or two stones show minor internal cloudiness or surface dirt, typical for the period; all stones appear securely set. There is no evidence of previous resizing or structural repair. The hallmarks other than the \"18\" mark are rubbed and not clearly legible.
