A Victorian 18 carat yellow gold mourning ring featuring a scalloped flower-head shaped bezel decorated with black vitreous enamel. The centre is set with an applied gold floral sprig featuring a five-petal flower and textured leaves. The shoulders and shank are further decorated with black enamel over a textured gold ground, displaying foliate scrollwork and stylized gothic script. The interior of the shank bears British hallmarks including the crown and 18 for 18 carat gold, alongside a town mark and a date letter. The ring is accompanied by a period-style velvet-lined presentation box.
Weight: 3.2g.
Condition report:
The ring is in worn antique condition. One small rose-cut diamond is missing from the centre of the applied floral sprig. There are visible losses and wear to the black vitreous enamel, particularly around the edges of the scalloped bezel and the shoulders. The gold surfaces show scratches and softening of detail consistent with age and regular use. The accompanying presentation box shows significant exterior wear, scuffing to the leatherette, and the metal closure latch is missing.
