A utility style travel trunk of rectangular form, constructed from pine planks. The exterior is finished in dark paint and features the initials A.W.D. hand-painted in a green serif font on the front panel. Hardware includes metal corner guards, metal strap hinges, and two leather handles secured to the ends. The front is fitted with a central cream-coloured celluloid handle, likely a later addition, positioned below a metal lock escutcheon. The interior is unfinished and shows the natural wood grain, with remnants of leather straps attached to the underside of the lid.
Condition report:
The trunk exhibits heavy surface wear throughout, including extensive scuffing, scratches, and paint loss. There are visible white paint splatters to the exterior surfaces. The metal hardware shows significant oxidation and pitting. The leather end handles are severely perished, dry, and cracked, with one partially detached. The interior displays age-related staining and darkening of the timber.
