A late 19th-century architectural mantel clock featuring a mechanical eight-day twin-train movement with a bell strike. The case is constructed from black slate and accented with fluted columns and panels of variegated green marble. The architectural form includes an arched pediment and is decorated with incised gilt-filled floral scrollwork. The sides are fitted with patinated metal lion-mask handles. The dial features a white porcelain chapter ring with black Roman numerals and a gilded centre with a visible Brocot escapement. The movement backplate is stamped with the number 703 and a circular maker’s mark. The clock includes a matching pendulum and winding key.
Condition report:
The movement is untested. The case shows surface dust and minor wear consistent with age, including small chips to the edges of the slate. The metal components show some patination and oxidation. The pendulum is currently detached.
