A Victorian mahogany chest of drawers featuring a traditional two-over-three configuration, consisting of two short drawers over three long, graduated drawers. The chest is designed with rounded corners to the top and carcass, and is supported by four large, turned bun feet. The drawer fronts are decorated with mahogany veneers and cock-beaded edges, and are fitted with turned wooden knobs. The drawer boxes are constructed with dovetail joints. No maker marks, stamps, or labels are visible.
Condition report:
The chest is in fair condition and requires restoration. The top surface is heavily marked with multiple prominent dark circular water stains and rings, along with surface scratches and finish wear. There is a significant horizontal shrinkage split running along the length of the right-hand side panel. Several sections of the cock-beading on the drawer edges are chipped or missing, most notably on the bottom right-hand drawer. The turned feet and knobs appear intact but show scuffs and surface wear consistent with age and use.
