An extensive collection of mid-20th-century blown glass Christmas tree ornaments, including items in original Winfield packaging. Winfield was the proprietary brand for F.W. Woolworth & Co. in the United Kingdom. The assortment features a variety of decorative forms such as spherical baubles, deep-indented reflector types, hand-painted designs with applied glitter accents, bell shapes, and elongated teardrops. The ornaments are constructed from thin-walled glass with metal hanging caps. One white bell ornament is composed of glitter-coated synthetic material. The colour palette includes vibrant teal, pink, gold, silver, red, and orange. Several sets of miniature baubles are housed in grid-divided containers. Packaging includes original Winfield branded boxes in red and black, a retail box marked 20 for 59p, and various repurposed containers including a shoe box.
Baubles range from approximately 2cm to 8cm in diameter.
Condition report:
The collection is in varied vintage condition. Many glass ornaments exhibit age-related piking and foxing, characterized by the loss of internal silvering. External surfaces show varying degrees of paint flaking, scratches, and lacquer wear. Some metal hanging caps display oxidation. The cardboard packaging is in poor to fair condition, showing significant wear, crushing, tearing, and staining. Due to the fragile nature of the items, some minor chips may be present at the neck of the glass ornaments underneath the metal caps.
