This assortment includes a figural desk inkwell, writing tools, and autograph books. The inkwell features a cast metal base in the form of a leaf with a hinged lid shaped as a walnut, containing a removable faceted clear glass reservoir with a scalloped rim. The writing instruments consist of a brushed steel and black plastic ballpoint pen, a burgundy and black marbled celluloid fountain pen with a gold-toned cap band and screw cap, a wooden dip pen with a metal nib, and a small mechanical pencil with a white finial bearing the mark Kellogg. Also present is a letter opener with a flat bone or ivorine handle and a dark metal blade. The ephemera consists of two autograph albums; a red cloth-bound volume with gilt titles and a central pictorial insert of a child with an umbrella, and a blue cloth-bound volume with embossed scrollwork decoration. A wood-grain patterned cardboard storage box is also included in the lot.
Condition report:
The inkwell shows significant wear to the surface patina and dried ink residue in the glass insert; the hinge remains functional. The wooden dip pen has heavy ink staining near the tip, and the metal blade of the letter opener is heavily tarnished and oxidised. The autograph albums display wear to the spines and covers, with the blue album showing more pronounced edge wear. The cardboard box is scuffed at the edges. The fountain pen nib and internal mechanisms have not been tested for functionality.
