A limited edition colour offset lithograph titled Ranger by the aviation artist Graeme Lothian. The scene depicts a pair of Supermarine Spitfire Mk IX aircraft flying at low altitude over a rural Northwest European landscape with fields, hedgerows, and farm buildings. The lead aircraft is rendered with D-Day invasion stripes. The print is hand-numbered 17/1000 in pencil to the lower right margin. It features two original hand-signed pencil signatures: the artist’s signature Graeme Lothian to the lower right and Johnnie Johnson to the lower left. Below the latter signature is the printed text, Air Vice-Marshal J.E. ‘Johnnie’ Johnson C.B., C.B.E., D.S.O., D.F.C., D.L. RAF (Retd). The central lower margin is printed with the title Ranger by Graeme Lothian and the caption, Before D-Day, our fighters ranged far and wide over North West Europe. The artwork also includes an in-plate signature to the bottom right and a copyright mark © Graeme Lothian 1994 at the top right. The print is presented in a dark wood frame with a double green and gold-lined mount.
Condition report:
The print is in good overall condition. The frame exhibits minor handling wear to the edges. There is a small white scuff mark or adhesive residue present on the lower left corner of the green matting.
