Buyer's Premium:

A collection of antique and vintage empty presentation and storage cases, primarily from British and Irish retailers, dating from the late 19th to the mid-20th century. The assortment includes a contoured dark brown leather case gold-stamped Waterhouse and Compy Dublin, lined with blue silk and purple velvet featuring a custom-shaped cutout. A large rectangular burgundy leather chest with gold-tooled borders and ornate brass sliding latches contains a padded cream satin interior with a recessed area for a large ceremonial object. A black leatherette case by James Walker Ltd. The London Jewellers features gold-tooled edge decoration and a black velvet interior with slots for a cake slice and server. The collection also includes a small red leather box commemorative of the 1937 Coronation, a light blue textured paper box from W. B. Michell and Sons of Penzance and Truro, and a square dark leather box from Hart Bros of Bristol. Further items include a green textured Yeoman Plate box and two large black cases with padded internal blocks designed to secure large sets of instruments or cutlery. Materials include leather, textured paper, wood, silk, satin, velvet, and brass.

Condition report:

These are empty cases and do not include any medals, jewellery, or silverware. Exterior condition is variable with notable scuffing and leather loss on the corners of the larger black cases. The Waterhouse and Co. case shows rubbing to the gold lettering. Interior silk and satin linings exhibit general foxing and staining, particularly in the larger white-lined chests. Fading is present on some velvet sections. Hinges and brass clasps are functional, though some show age-related stiffness.
