This lot comprises a collection of decorative tin-glazed earthenware, primarily executed in the Hispano-Moresque style. The group features hand-painted cobalt blue decoration on a white or cream ground, incorporating characteristic motifs such as pseudo-Arabic calligraphy, Greek key borders, cross-hatched panels, and intricate foliate scrolls. The collection includes a pair of large two-handled amphora vases with geometric decoration on flat handles, a pair of bulbous jars with wide open necks, and a pair of unusual multi-spouted ring vases featuring circular bodies with interlocking loop handles. One ring vase base bears the hand-painted mark 10 ESPA, and one bulbous jar is incised with the number 420 to the underside. Also included is a polychrome figural pitcher in the form of a rooster head with a red comb and blue handle. The set is completed by three individual floral planters: one with relief-moulded white daisies and pink bands, one with a dark blue band and painted floral sprays, and one cream-ground bowl decorated with strawberries and a blue flower.
Condition report:
The collection shows significant signs of wear and damage. One large amphora vase has a major dark repair to the shoulder. One of the multi-spouted ring vases has a broken and missing section from one auxiliary spout. The pair of large bulbous jars exhibit numerous and substantial chips to the rims and bases. Throughout the blue and white items, there are smaller rim chips, glaze pops, surface scratches, and abrasions consistent with age and handling. The rooster pitcher and three floral planters appear to be in better overall condition with only minor shelf wear to the bases.
