Start price: £10

Estimated price: £10 - £20

Buyer's Premium:

A Victorian octagonal side table featuring highly figured burr walnut veneers. The octagonal top is faced with quartersawn burr walnut veneer exhibiting a rich, swirling grain pattern, finished with a cross-banded border and a stepped, moulded edge. The top is supported by a base consisting of four turned pillars that rest upon a circular, tiered, and stepped central pedestal. This pedestal features a downward-pointing turned finial at its centre. The table stands on four splayed cabriole legs. Each leg is carved at the knee with scrolling acanthus leaf motifs and terminates in a scrolled foot. The toe blocks of the feet are decorated with carved four-petaled floral or star patterns. The construction consists of burr walnut veneers over a solid wood sub-structure. A small white adhesive label is present on the tabletop surface bearing the characters M1085R, appearing to be an auctioneer stock or lot identification label. No manufacturer stamps, signatures, or maker labels are visible on the surfaces of the piece.

Condition report:

The table is structurally sound with no evidence of loose joints. The veneered surface of the top shows multiple fine surface scratches, small indentations, and areas of fading and wear to the original polish. There are several localized darker spots on the top which may indicate old moisture or heat marks. The carved legs and base show minor scuffs, abrasions, and finish loss, particularly around the feet and lower edges, consistent with age and floor-level use. The piece retains a well-preserved patina.
