A trio of Victorian writing accessories comprising a glass inkwell and two white metal mechanical pencils. The inkwell is of globular form with a clear, vertically fluted glass body, fitted with a hinged metal collar and domed lid. The larger mechanical pencil features a hexagonal barrel and is stamped with the maker mark Scott and Co London. This pencil is decorated with embossed foliate patterns on the nozzle and collar and features a white circular stone seal terminal. The smaller mechanical pencil is of cylindrical form with overall foliate scroll engraving and a reddish-brown quatrefoil-shaped stone seal terminal. The items are accompanied by a small red cardboard box containing cotton wool.
Condition report:
The inkwell shows significant green verdigris and oxidation to the interior of the metal collar and the underside of the lid. The glass body remains in good condition with minor surface scratches consistent with use. Both mechanical pencils exhibit heavy tarnish and patination across the white metal surfaces. Mechanical functions are untested. Surface scratches and minor indentations are present, commensurate with age. No hallmarks are visible on the pieces.
