This group of studio and commercial ceramics comprises a diverse collection of stoneware and earthenware items. The collection includes Prinknash Abbey Pottery tankards finished in a lustrous metallic black-brown glaze; a larger tankard features a dimpled, textured body and a scroll handle, with the base marked PRINKNASH MADE IN ENGLAND, while a smaller tankard has a smooth body with a central horizontal band and a base marked PRINKNASH HAND MADE ENGLAND. A German salt-glazed pitcher in light grey stoneware features blue hand-painted floral motifs and script reading Efringer Krügle, with the base marked HANDARBEIT, bearing a stylised maker’s mark and stamped MADE IN GERMANY. A Bovey Pottery Dartmoor Ware plate depicts a hand-painted scene of a thatched cottage in a landscape, with the base inscribed in black script Bovey Pottery Dartmoor Ware. DK. The lot contains studio pottery bowls, including two large open bowls with pale celadon-style glazes, one retaining a gold foil label for ZANE HAZELDINE COTEHELE MILL POTTERY and the other bearing an impressed bird-like mark, alongside a smaller rounded bowl with a mottled teal-green glaze and a dark blue hand-painted sprig, bearing an impressed heart-shaped mark to the base. Töpferei Holzen ware is represented by a plate and a small bulbous vase finished in a vibrant, mottled deep blue glaze, with the plate base stamped Tu. REI HOLZEN. Small vases include a bulbous green vase with a terracotta base marked Pistol and a white bud vase with blue bands and an orange and blue leaf motif, hand-marked JS on the base. Miscellaneous items include square teal-glazed decorative tiles with a raised mandala pattern and cork backings, a blue jug with black swirl patterns, a buff stoneware mug with blue flowers, and additional assorted stoneware mugs.
Condition report:
The items are generally in good condition. The Bovey Pottery plate displays significant and visible crazing across the glazed surface. The striped bud vase has a small chip on the upper rim. All items show minor surface wear and marks consistent with age and use.
