A Victorian folding fruit knife featuring a single sterling silver blade and iridescent mother-of-pearl handle scales. The blade is struck with a series of Sheffield hallmarks including the maker mark I.W for Isaac Walton, the crown assay mark, the lion passant for sterling silver, a sovereign’s head duty mark, and a lowercase date letter. The handle scales are secured with silver pins and feature decorative engraved silver bolsters at the pivot end. A central rectangular silver cartouche is inset into one scale and is engraved with the name A. ADAMS. The knife is presented with its original two-part fitted leather-covered case.
Condition report:
The original leather-covered case is in two sections with the cap detached and shows significant surface wear and scuffing. The mother-of-pearl handle scales exhibit a hairline crack extending from the pivot pin towards the bolster on one side. The sterling silver blade and bolsters show fine surface scratching and light tarnishing consistent with age and use.
