A pair of matched framed silk embroidery panels, depicting a cockerel and a hen within a landscape. The scenes include stylised pine trees with needles worked in a radiating fan pattern and a low fence at the base. The panels are designed as a mirrored pair, with the birds in one composition facing right and the other facing left. The needlework is executed in white, cream, and red silk threads against a dark fabric ground. Various embroidery techniques are employed to create texture within the plumage and foliage. Each panel is housed under glass in a matching dark-stained wooden frame featuring a beaded inner gilt border. A small adhesive label marked M1085R is present on the top corner of one frame.
Condition report:
Both textile panels appear to be in good condition with no visible staining or significant thread loss. One panel exhibits a slight vertical ripple in the background fabric. The frames show light surface wear and minor scuffs consistent with age. The brown paper dust covers on the reverse are intact but brittle, with one panel having a significant tear in the paper.
