A collection of artworks including several watercolours, an oil painting, and a portrait photograph. The group features a topographical watercolour on card, titled ‘View of Cognac from St Jacques’ in red ink and signed ‘E.M. BURN. 98.’ lower right. The collection also includes an impressionistic landscape oil painting on board or canvas depicting a river winding through woodland, housed in an ornate gilt-finished frame. A framed sepia-toned studio portrait photograph depicts a young man in a light suit and tie, bearing an ink inscription to the upper right corner. Additionally, the collection contains a loose, gestural watercolour of a harbour with red-hulled boats, and two further framed watercolours depicting coastal and woodland scenes. Framing includes traditional gilt-finished wood, simple wood, and silver-toned metal. The versos of the framed pieces show varied age-related wear with simple cord and wire hanging mechanisms.
Condition report:
The collection shows varied states of preservation. Several paper-based works exhibit light to moderate foxing, toning, and acid-burn consistent with age. One framed townscape watercolour has a significant diagonal crack to the glazing. Frame finishes show general wear, including abrasions, small losses to gilt surfaces, and corner separation. Loose mounts show adhesive tape residue and minor staining. The oil painting appears stable with some surface dust and minor frame rubbing.
