A collection of four weathered cast stone garden ornaments. The group comprises a matched pair of Oriental style guardian lions, commonly referred to as Foo Dogs, and two seated figures depicting the Laughing Buddha, or Budai. The guardian lions are shown seated on integral rectangular plinths and feature traditional stylized manes, wide mouths, and ornate decorative detailing. One lion retains a white rectangular paper label to the head with the handwritten characters C 1 1 6 6 c. The Budai figures are both in seated poses; one figure has a dark, heavily weathered finish with prominent white mineral deposits, while the second figure is cast in a lighter-toned stone with surface dirt and moderate erosion consistent with age.
Condition report:
The collection is in as found garden condition. Extensive outdoor exposure has resulted in a deep, natural patina across all pieces. There is significant moss and lichen growth, particularly to the pair of guardian lions. Visible surface erosion, pitting, and minor edge chips are present, consistent with long term outdoor placement. The darker Budai figure shows substantial white mineral efflorescence on the surface.
