A mixed collection of costume jewellery brooches and pins featuring a wide range of subjects and materials. The group includes animalier motifs such as a leaping rabbit stick pin, a dolphin with pavé accents, a stylized feline form, and a small giraffe. Botanical designs are represented by gold-tone and copper-coloured enamel roses, various leaf and fern sprigs, and floral wreaths. One notable piece is a rhinestone-set ER II royal cipher brooch surmounted by a crown with red and blue accents. Classical styles include an oval cameo depicting a female profile, two Limoges-style brooches featuring scenes on black grounds, and a black glass oval with blue millefiori floral inclusions. Other designs include a gold-tone Ichthys fish symbol and a rhinestone-set Christmas tree. The items are constructed from gold-tone and silver-tone base metals set with a variety of glass and synthetic stones, including faceted glass, Aurora Borealis and clear rhinestones, faux pearls, mother-of-pearl, and glass cabochons imitating tiger’s eye and malachite.
Condition report:
The collection is in good vintage condition overall with signs of wear commensurate with age. There is minor surface oxidation and rubbing to the gold-tone plating on several pieces, particularly the larger floral brooches. Some rhinestones on the royal cipher brooch exhibit characteristic darkening or yellowing common in older paste jewellery. All pin mechanisms appear to be present and intact, though they have not been mechanically tested.
