A vintage fretless chord zither, branded The Piano-Chord. The instrument features a wooden soundboard with an oak grain finish. A central circular soundhole contains a black label with gold-tone lettering reading The Piano-Chord. The lower section of the soundboard is decorated with a polychrome decal showing musical notation, chord groupings labelled E B G, F A C, and D G B, and a numbered scale for melody strings from 1 to 15. The upper edge and right shoulder are fitted with metal tuning pins. An original green care label is present, providing storage instructions for a Zither, Harp or Auto-Harp. The instrument is held within its original black paper-covered cardboard storage box.
Condition report:
The instrument is in poor to fair condition and requires restoration. A prominent vertical crack is visible to the soundboard on the right-hand side. Several strings are missing, and the remaining strings exhibit significant surface rust and oxidation. The tuning pins also show signs of corrosion. The wooden body has a build-up of dust and surface grime. The original storage box is heavily worn with significant splitting at the corners and edges.
