A 20th century Georgian style mahogany stick barometer by Comitti Holborn. The mahogany case is designed in a traditional 18th century aesthetic featuring a broken-arch pediment with a central brass urn finial and decorative light wood stringing and cross-banded veneers. The lower portion of the case terminates in a rounded, turned mahogany cistern cover. The silvered brass dial plate is protected by a glazed door and incorporates a red spirit thermometer to the left with dual scales for Fahrenheit and Celsius. These scales include traditional descriptive markings such as Blood Heat, Sumr Heat, Temperate, and Freezing. The barometer scale to the right ranges from 27 to 31 inches of mercury, accompanied by weather indications including Stormy, M. Rain, RAIN, Change, FAIR, Set Fair, and Very Dry. A brass vernier slide is present, operated by a brass knob above the dial. The dial is inscribed top centre Comitti Holborn and marked Made in England at the bottom right. The item is accompanied by a handwritten sales receipt from Heelas (Cole Brothers Limited), Broad Street, Reading, RG1 2BB, dated 20/4/71, recording the purchase of a Barometer for 33.00.

Condition report:

The barometer appears to be in very good, well-maintained condition. The mercury column is intact and appears functional (photo 1). The mahogany case shows only minor surface wear and light marks consistent with age and careful display (photo 2). The silvered dial plate is clean and the lettering remains sharp and legible (photo 3). The glass door and brass components are in good order (photo 4).
