A 2018 The Royal Mint silver £2 coin commemorating the centenary of the Royal Air Force, specifically featuring the Supermarine Spitfire aircraft. This lot comprises a single bimetallic coin struck with a .925 sterling silver inner core and a .925 sterling silver outer ring plated with fine gold. The obverse displays the coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark, with initials J.C below the truncation, surrounded by the legend ELIZABETH II · D · G · REG · F · D · 2 POUNDS. The reverse shows three aircraft in formation with the inscription SPITFIRE RAF 1918-2018. The coin is housed in an acrylic capsule and presented in a black display box with a blue slipcase titled Bravery in the Skies. The lot includes an illustrated booklet and a Certificate of Authenticity numbered 4774. The documentation specifies a limited edition presentation of 7,500 units. Condition report:
The coin exhibits a mirrored proof finish with no visible surface marks, scratches, or toning through the protective acrylic capsule (photos 2, 3). The inner black display case is in good order (photo 2). The blue outer slipcase shows minor rubbing and shelf wear to the corner edges (photo 1). The illustrated booklet and certificate are clean and free from creasing (photos 1, 4).
