A collection of aviation and maritime themed ceramics, metalware, and glassware including examples by Coalport. The group includes several bone china commemorative plates, two being housed in blue presentation boxes printed with gold characters reading COALPORT FINE BONE CHINA. One loose plate depicts a Spitfire over a landscape with the script inscription Duxford. A ceramic mug is printed with a central crest and the text ROYAL AIR FORCE 75th ANNIVERSARY 1918 1993, alongside another mug featuring various vintage aircraft. The metalware comprises several tankards and a goblet, with engraved inscriptions including No. 45 SQUADRON and FROM THE OFFICERS OF 38 GP. T.C.W. TO FLT. LT. R. MILES SEPT. ’74 – FEB. ’79. Glass items include three etched tankards and a heavy clear glass dish with embossed characters reading 1932 and NORTH. The lot is further accompanied by a hardcover book titled THE MARITIME PAINTINGS OF JOHN CHANCELLOR, a stylised metal sculpture on a wooden base with an illegible plaque, and a quantity of military service records and documents.
Condition report:
The collection shows signs of use and age throughout. The blue presentation boxes exhibit scuffing and wear to the edges and corners (photo 1). The metalware shows general surface dulling and scratches, with the interior of the goblet-style tankard showing significant corrosion and heavy tarnish (photo 2). Several items, including a plate box and the glass dish, bear white adhesive inventory labels reading D1208P (photo 1, 3). The ceramic and glass items show no visible chips or cracks (photo 1). The accompanying paper documents and service records show creasing, yellowing, and minor edge tears consistent with age (photo 3).
