A Georgian style twin-pedestal desk constructed from stained pine with a visible knotty grain, finished in a medium honey-oak tone. The desk is built in three sections, comprising a rectangular top and two pedestals, designed for ease of transport. The top features an inset red leather writing surface decorated with Greek key gold-tooled borders and corner vignettes. The configuration includes nine drawers in total: a single long central frieze drawer and two banks of four graduated drawers. The drawer fronts feature cockbeaded edges and are fitted with pierced brass backplates and swan-neck swing handles. The three upper drawers are further detailed with decorative brass escutcheons. Each pedestal is supported by a plinth base with bracket-style cutouts. Accompanying the desk is an original handwritten purchase receipt from Furnitureland Ltd., Unit A, Coypool, Plymouth, dated 9-3-89. The documentation records the item as a Bristow B8 4 foot 2 inch desk in red leather top, showing a purchase price of 415.00 pounds and marked as paid in full.
Condition report:
The red leather writing surface shows heavy wear and distress, including significant scuffing, loss of pigment, and deep scratches across the entire area (photo 7). The wooden frame and drawer fronts display scattered nicks, small dents, and surface scratches, most notably along the outer top edges and the plinth base (photo 6). All brass hardware is present but exhibits moderate oxidation and tarnishing throughout (photo 3). The piece is structurally sound, though the finish would benefit from cleaning or waxing to address general surface wear.
