This lot comprises a collection of four Art Deco style sterling silver vanity accessories and one brooch. The grooming set includes a hand mirror, two hairbrushes, and a dressing comb. Each piece is constructed with polished sterling silver surfaces featuring linear ribbed borders along the handles and spines. The handles of the mirror and brushes, and the spine of the comb, are incised with the characters 9 2 5 S T E R L I N G. The hairbrushes are fitted with natural-coloured bristles, while the comb consists of cream-coloured synthetic teeth. The brooch is a hexagonal red cinnabar style item featuring a carved front with Chinese characters, including the character 福. The carved element is mounted on a dark-toned metal filigree mesh backing and is secured with a simple hinged pin and C-clasp.
Condition report:
The sterling silver items exhibit significant tarnish and surface scratching throughout the polished surfaces (photos 2, 3, 4, and 5). The dressing comb has one missing tooth at the terminal end (photo 1). Both hairbrushes show accumulated debris and hair within the bristles (photo 1). The red cinnabar style brooch shows minor surface wear but the filigree backing and clasp remain intact and functional (photo 6).
