A collection of United Kingdom and international coins and tokens including silver content coinage, commemorative crowns, and historical tokens. This lot comprises a variety of United Kingdom pre-decimal silver-coloured denominations such as shillings, florins, and sixpences from the reigns of George V, George VI, and Elizabeth II. One group is contained in a rectangular tin accompanied by a yellow adhesive note reading 50/50 Silver. Identified silver content pieces include a 1919 George V shilling, a 1945 florin, and a 1966 Australian round 50-cent coin. A group of commemorative crowns are presented in clear plastic protective flips, including the 1953 Coronation, 1972 Silver Wedding, and 1977 Silver Jubilee issues. A historical highlight is an 1811 copper-alloy penny token, bearing the impressed inscription DEVON MINES 1811 around a depiction of a beam engine, and TAVISTOCK PENNY TOKEN around the Prince of Wales feathers. Other items include George V copper pennies, brass threepences, and a US Washington quarter dated 1966. The coins are constructed from various materials including silver-coloured alloys, copper-alloys, and brass.
Weight: 265g as shown on the digital scale in photo 9 (inclusive of container and note).
Condition report:
The collection is in mixed circulated condition. The copper pennies show heavy surface wear and dark toning (photo 3). The pre-decimal silver-coloured coinage exhibits typical circulation wear with surface scratches and some tarnishing (photos 7 and 8). The 1811 Devon Mines token shows significant wear to the high points and rims, though the central engine design and inscriptions remain clearly legible (photos 4 and 5). The commemorative crowns in protective flips appear in extremely fine condition with no visible surface faults (photo 6). The 1966 Australian 50-cent coin shows light surface wear (photo 2).
