A collection of eleven M.J. Hummel hand-painted porcelain figurines produced by the Goebel porcelain factory. This assortment features characters in traditional rural attire, including Waysides (a girl on a fence with a basket), Little Goat Herder (a girl with one goat and a boy with two goats), two sizes of Apple Tree Boy, Barnyard Hero (a boy on a fence with a goose), two sizes of Chimney Sweep, Little Sweeper (a girl with a broom), and a Skier. The figures are constructed with a cream-coloured glazed porcelain base and finished with characteristic matt pigments. Each piece bears the incised signature M.J. Hummel, typically located on the top or rear of the base. The undersides feature an underglaze blue mark consisting of a stylised V containing a small bee, positioned above W-Germany. Several pieces also include a blue printed copyright symbol followed by by W. Goebel. Additional marks include incised model numbers such as 112/I, 182, 200/0, 142/I, 142/3/0, 195/I, 171, and 59. A small white adhesive label reading DI 203P is present on the Barnyard Hero figure, and a partially removed paper label is visible on the base of the Waysides figurine.

Condition report:

The collection is in generally good condition with vibrant colours throughout. A vertical white surface mark or paint skip is visible on the reverse of one fence post on the Waysides figurine (photo 3). The Skier figurine has sustained significant damage and subsequent repair at the junction where the feet meet the skis; prominent horizontal cracks and yellowish adhesive residue are clearly visible at the ankles and ski bindings (photos 25 and 26). The figurines exhibit light surface dust and minor firing imperfections consistent with hand-painted porcelain production.
