A collection of Spode fine bone china maritime commemorative ceramics with presentation cases, featuring two limited edition plate series produced in association with the National Maritime Museum. The items are manufactured from fine bone china and decorated with transfer-printed central vignettes depicting naval battles and vessels, bordered by heavy gold-encrusted scrolling and anchor motifs on cobalt blue grounds. The 1987 Maritime Collection Armada Series comprises six plates titled A Game of Bowls, Armada Leaving Ferrol, Launch of the Fireships, Armada Showing Fireships, Attack of the Vanguard, and Revenge off Gravelines, each from a limited edition of two thousand. The Maritime England Series includes six plates commemorating historical events including the Battle of Trafalgar, the Battle of the Nile, the Four Days Battle, the Glorious First of June, the Battle of Camperdown, and the Taking of Porto Bello. The lot also includes commemorative mugs from the Armada series, including an Ark Royal flagship example, and multiple sets of teacups with matching saucers. The base of the mug is printed in gold with THIS PIECE HAS BEEN PRODUCED AS PART OF THE ARMADA SERIES, THE ARK ROYAL FLAGSHIP OF THE ENGLISH FLEET AT THE TIME OF THE ARMADA – 1588, and the Spode maker name. The red presentation boxes are lined in satin and bear the Spode name to the interior lid in gold script beneath a crest. This lot comprises the ceramics, boxes, and certificates only; the furniture and peripheral items visible in the background of the images are not included.
