A collection of approximately fifty vintage men’s dress accessories comprising cufflinks, shirt studs, and tie clips. The lot features pieces constructed from gold-tone and silver-tone base metals, enamel, mother-of-pearl, glass, and possibly early plastics such as Bakelite or celluloid. The collection spans the mid-20th century from the 1930s to the 1960s, showcasing Art Deco geometric designs and mid-century modern textured finishes. A highlight of the assortment is a pair of gold-toned circular cufflinks housed in a black hinged presentation case with a blue velvet-lined interior. The faces of these commemorative pieces are embossed with the 1951 Festival of Britain emblem and are marked with the characters 1 9 5 1 and the words FESTIVAL OF BRITAIN. Other notable items include large black circular cufflinks with central gold-toned studs, various mother-of-pearl shirt studs, a silver-tone textured tie bar, and several pairs of toggle-back and chain-link cufflinks in diverse patterns.
Condition report:
Visible surface scratching and tarnishing are present across the metal components throughout the collection (photos 1 and 2). Minor verdigris is evident on several of the base metal pieces (photo 2). The blue velvet lining of the black presentation case for the Festival of Britain cufflinks shows signs of internal wear and compression (photo 2). The cardboard storage boxes exhibit edge wear and general signs of age-related handling (photo 1). No stones appear to be missing from the primary visible pieces (photo 1).
