This lot comprises two giltwood and gesso wall mirrors in Neoclassical and Rococo styles. The first mirror is of oval form with a clear bevelled-edge glass plate. The frame is constructed from gilded wood and composition, featuring a prominent floral and foliate crest, a rope-twist inner border, and an outer edge adorned with acanthus leaf and scroll motifs. The second mirror is a cartouche-shaped Rococo style example. The frame is elaborately decorated with deep C-scrolls, acanthus leaves, and shell-like motifs in gilded composition, with the mirror plate shaped to follow the irregular interior contour. The Rococo style mirror bears a small white adhesive label to the frame reading S 7 0 2 C. No manufacturer marks or signatures are visible on either piece. This lot comprises the mirrors only; the furniture, lamps, and other decorative items shown in the reflections and background are not included.
Condition report:
Both mirrors show general age-related wear to the gilded finish. The oval mirror has minor chips and small losses to the gesso decoration on the upper crest (photo 3). The Rococo style mirror shows rubbing to the gilding on the recessed areas and minor losses to the protruding scrollwork edges (photo 2). The mirror plates appear to be in good condition with no significant foxing, clouding, or silvering loss visible (photo 1). The condition of the rear hanging hardware was not inspected.
