A collection of framed Dartmoor landscape artworks including examples by Frederick John Widgery and Sidney Willson, comprising various media such as watercolour, oil, pastel, and print. The lot features a large colour landscape print after an original by Frederick John Widgery (1861–1948) titled Yes Tor, Dartmoor, which is marked with printed text to the lower margin and an edition number 347/850 in pencil to the lower left. An original watercolour on paper titled Dartmoor Squalls is signed Sidney Willson 88 to the lower right, accompanied by a fragmented adhesive label to the reverse reading Dartmoor Squalls by Sidney Willson Plymouth 853634. A pastel drawing on grey paper titled STORM OVER DARTMOOR is signed Lawrence 74 to the lower right, with a corresponding label to the reverse reading L.A. WRIGHT 62 LOOSELEIGH LANE PLYMOUTH. The collection also includes a landscape oil on board titled Dartmoor Tor II, bearing the signature Paul Adams and a label for The West Devon Gallery, Plymouth. Completing the group is a small hand-coloured photograph titled Cloud Shadows Dartmoor with a label to the reverse reading AN INDIVIDUAL HAND COLOURED PHOTOGRAPH BY M. A. COWLEY NORTH GRAY KENT.
Condition report:
The Frederick John Widgery print and L.A. Wright pastel appear in good overall condition. The Sidney Willson watercolour exhibits significant foxing and brown spots across the upper sky area (photo 15 and 16). The oil on board shows minor surface dust. The frames throughout display light age-related wear, including surface scuffing and dust accumulation (photo 1, 12, 18).
