This lot comprises an empty antique sewing machine in case. The assembly includes a rectangular arched cover and a matching wooden base, constructed with a dark veneer, possibly mahogany or walnut. The top panel is decorated with a rectangular stencilled border and features a central arched wooden handle mounted on metal brackets. The vertical edges are finished with carved rounded moulding. A small metal key is attached to the handle with blue cord. A small white rectangular adhesive label is present on the top cover, although the characters upon it are not clearly legible. No other maker marks, signatures, or brand names are visible on the item. This lot comprises the case and base only; the sewing machine and other internal components are not included.
Condition report:
The case is in fair condition with visible surface wear, scratches, and scuffs throughout the exterior (photo 1). Significant damage is present to the base, with a large loss of veneer exposing the carcass wood at one end (photo 2). The wooden base is splitting and misaligned at the side near the metal latch (photo 2).
