A group of three framed nautical artworks including a John Chancellor limited edition print. The first work is a limited edition colour print after John Chancellor titled ‘Taking Bude After a Blow’, depicting a sailing vessel navigating high seas near a rocky outcrop. The print is numbered 844/850 in pencil to the lower right margin and bears a printed signature by the artist to the lower left. It is further inscribed ‘Published by Triton Publications’ above the top border and features a blind-embossed rectangular stamp to the lower left margin. The second item is a colour lithographic print depicting the ‘S.S. GREAT BRITAIN off Bristol, being warped out of Avon Dock, 24.1.1845’. The work is inscribed with the title and bears printed text reading ‘Copyright given to S.S. Great Britain Project by J. C. G. Hill’ and ‘Printed by Allen Davies & Co. Ltd. England’. The final piece is a maritime painting, possibly gouache on paper, executed in a naive style and depicting a yellow-sailed ship in choppy water flanked by lighthouses. All three artworks are presented in professional glazed frames with decorative mounts.
Condition report:
The S.S. Great Britain print displays a visible tide mark and light discolouration along the lower margin of the magenta mount (photo 3). Minor foxing and age-toning are present on the margins of the print itself (photo 2). The remaining two artworks and their mounts appear to be in good condition with no significant visible defects. The frames show light surface wear and minor scuffing to the edges consistent with age and handling. The backing papers on the reverse are intact.
