An Aubrey Fabing oil on canvas landscape painting. This large atmospheric work, dated 1972, depicts a tranquil lake or river scene set against a backdrop of mountains under a soft, pink-toned sky. The composition is anchored by a large, densely foliated tree in the foreground right and a slender birch tree to the left, rendered in a muted palette of greens, greys, and browns. The artist has utilised soft blending in the sky and water areas alongside stippled, textural brushwork to define the foliage and rocky shoreline. The work is signed to the lower left corner in white paint Aubrey Fabing 1972. It is housed in an ornate gilt-finish frame featuring scrolling foliate corner motifs and a textured off-white liner.
Condition report:
The painting exhibits accumulated surface dirt across the paint film (photo 1). The ornate frame shows minor abrasions and small chips to the gilt finish, particularly at the corners, and there is slight staining and discolouration to the fabric liner (photo 1). A small indentation or texture irregularity is visible in the upper centre sky area (photo 1). The canvas remains taut and there is no paint loss visible.
