A collection of vintage collectibles and ephemera including a ladies’ wristwatch and commemorative items housed within a black-painted wooden storage box. The lot features a gold-tone ladies’ wristwatch with a black leather strap, presented in a black case with the lid bearing the silver printed mark Warren James. Ephemera includes a small red cloth-bound book titled COMMON PRAYER in gilt lettering and a yellowed paper document titled NATIONAL HEALTH SERVICE MEDICAL CARD associated with a Plymouth address. Also present is a studio portrait photograph in a card mount signed in script J. Hodge and a vintage monochrome group photograph.
Decorative objects within the group include an abacus with brass-coloured beads mounted on a green marble base and a circular grey metal commemorative medal depicting a mounted figure with the text THE REASON WE FIGHT FOR. The lot includes a red presentation box with gold-tone print reading ON 1953, possibly for a coronation medal, and an embroidered BRITAIN patch featuring a Union Jack. Further items comprise two tarnished metal tins, a pack of Donald Duck playing cards, a blue glass nazar charm, a small resin figure, and various metal keys.
Condition report:
The black-painted wooden storage box shows significant surface wear, paint loss, and abrasions (photo 1). The metal items, including the abacus beads and tins, exhibit varying degrees of surface oxidation, tarnish, and wear (photo 3). The paper ephemera, including the photographs and medical card, show age-related yellowing, creasing, and edge wear (photo 4). The red cloth-bound book has visible wear to the spine and corners (photo 3). The wristwatch is housed in its presentation case; functionality has not been tested (photo 2).
