A collection of studio pottery and fine bone china comprising utilitarian stoneware and decorative souvenir pieces. The studio pottery group, produced by local maker John Dennis Bullock at Pillaton, includes several dinner plates with spiral textured wells, a footed goblet, three assorted pitchers, and multiple lugged soup bowls with matching mugs. These pieces feature a speckled oatmeal coloured glaze, with some bowls and jugs finished with a contrasting dark brown interior glaze. A small conjoined stamped monogram reading db is present on the bases of these items. The lot includes a fine bone china commemorative plate titled PLYMOUTH in red transfer print, depicting local landmarks such as Smeaton Tower and the Mayflower Steps. The reverse is printed with a historical summary and a maker mark for Edwardian FINE BONE CHINA MADE IN ENGLAND. Also present is a bowl and tray by Alperstein Designs featuring Aboriginal style artwork by Paddy Japaljarri Sims. The bases are marked ALPeRSTeIN DeSIGNS, Fine Bone China, Made in China, and PADDY JAPALJARRI SIMS.
Condition report:
The collection is in good overall condition with no visible structural damage. The studio pottery shows typical kiln variations in the glaze and surface texture consistent with handmade production (photos 1 and 3). The Plymouth commemorative plate is in excellent condition with no visible chips or cracks to the rim or glaze (photo 9). The Alperstein Designs designer ware shows no visible signs of wear or damage to the transfer-printed patterns (photo 6). Surface wear across the utilitarian pieces is minor and consistent with domestic use (photo 8).
