A mid-century modern Scandinavian style possibly teak veneered highboard. The piece is constructed with a stepped, two-tier profile featuring a shallower upper section and a deeper base. The upper portion contains a pair of sliding doors to the left and a fall-front bureau or cocktail cabinet to the right. The fall-front is supported by two brass-toned metal stays and opens to reveal a white laminate-lined serving or writing surface and an internal shelf. A central bank of two drawers with dovetail construction is positioned below the upper compartments. The base section provides a large storage area enclosed by two further sliding doors. The highboard is supported by four square-tapered legs and features integral carved pull handles of a recessed form. The back panel is finished in a matching wood veneer. No maker’s marks, stamps, or labels are visible on the piece. This lot comprises the highboard only; the furniture, books, and other interior items shown in the images are not included.
Condition report:
The highboard is in good vintage condition with minor surface scratches and faint watermarks consistent with domestic use (photo 1). The white laminate interior of the fall-front door shows four small, circular holes in a rectangular arrangement where a fitting was previously attached (photo 4). There are light scuffs to the radiused edges and side panels (photo 5). The sliding doors and drawers are noted to operate smoothly. The rear veneer panel shows some light surface wear but remains intact (photo 6).
