Sold for: £3
A collection of elephant figurines and decorative items in various materials including ceramic, wood, metal, stone, and textile. The group comprises a wide range of stylistic representations, featuring numerous ceramic elephants in glazes such as celadon-green, mottled brown, and multi-coloured designs with circus-style motifs. A large ceramic jar encased in woven wicker is also included.
Notable pieces within the collection include an ornate silver-tone metal vessel with elaborate repoussé decoration and a dark patinated metal figure of the deity Ganesha. Carved elements consist of a circular wooden wall plaque with high-relief elephants, a smaller wood figurine with gilded accents, and an orange-toned carved Ganesha figure mounted on a green stone base. The lot also contains two rectangular relief plaques with metallic finishes and a caparisoned elephant figure dressed in embroidered green fabric with beadwork. A paper label marked S702C is adhered to the wooden plaque, and a lot number sticker 313 is present. Excluding the leather glove visible in the background.
Condition report:
The collection is in good display condition with signs of light surface wear consistent with use. The wicker casing on the large jar exhibits some fraying and minor losses to the woven strands, visible in image 1. General surface grime and dust are present, particularly in the recessed areas of the carved and metal pieces. Adhered paper auction labels are present on the wooden wall plaque in images 3 and 4. No significant chips or cracks were observed on the ceramic or stone items.
