This auction ended on September 16, 2026.

Start price: £10

Estimated price: £10 - £20

Buyer's Premium: 20%

Sold for: £30

A George III style mahogany writing table featuring a rectangular top with a cross-banded edge and a dark brown leather inset. The leather surface is decorated with gold-tooled borders and foliate motifs at the corners. The frieze is fitted with two long drawers, each provided with two brass swan-neck handles and a central keyhole. The interior of the drawers demonstrates machine-cut dovetail construction and is lined with a light-coloured secondary wood, possibly oak or ash. The table is supported by four square tapered legs, each terminating in a spade foot. There are no visible maker marks, labels, or signatures present on the body or drawers. The lot comprises the writing table only; the books and other items shown in the background of the images are not included.

Condition report:

The leather top shows several visible surface scuffs, scratches, and white circular marks consistent with mug placement (photo 3). There are minor indentations throughout the leather surface (photo 4). The woodwork exhibits general surface wear, including nicks and scratches to the edges of the top and the legs (photo 7). There is visible wear to the polish around the drawer fronts and the corners (photo 2). Both drawers are functional, though there is minor wear and small wood losses around the locking mechanisms on the top edge of the drawer fronts (photo 4). The brass handles show a natural aged patina but are intact (photo 6).
