Start price: £5

Estimated price: £5 - £10

Buyer's Premium: 20%

A collection of Goebel M.I. Hummel hand-painted porcelain figurines. This group comprises four figures depicting children in traditional Bavarian-style attire, each hand-modelled and finished with characteristic matte glazes. The assortment includes a boy playing a violin with an umbrella on his back, a child carrying a red bindle and a branch with a small bird, a girl in a red polka-dot dress playing a mandolin, and a boy seated on the ground observing a small yellow chick. Each figurine features an incised facsimile signature reading M.J. Hummel on the base. The undersides of the pieces are marked with a blue underglaze stamp consisting of a stylised V containing a small bee above the words Goebel and W. Germany. Three of the pieces retain their original gold-tone adhesive paper title labels to the sides of the bases, reading Little Fiddler, Gay Adventure, and Happiness. This lot comprises the four figurines only; the wooden shelving shown in the images is not included.

Condition report:

Visible crazing is present to the glaze on the bases of all four figurines, particularly prominent in the close-up views of the paper labels (photos 2, 3, and 4). One figurine exhibits a significant network of hairline cracks across the underside of the base (photo 5). The hand-painted decoration and protruding elements, such as the violin bow and umbrella handle, appear well-preserved across the collection.
