This lot comprises a large empty rustic style coffee table chest constructed from solid pine throughout. The piece features a stained and waxed finish and is designed with a planked construction. The lid is divided into two sections, opening from either side via central hinges, and is reinforced on the underside with two vertical wooden battens. The chest is dressed with black-finished metal hardware, comprising six strap hinges with decorative spearhead terminals and twin metal drop handles to the sides for carrying. No manufacturer’s marks or stamps are visible on the item. This lot comprises the chest only; no other items shown in the images are included.
Condition report:
The exterior shows a general distribution of surface scratches, minor indentations, and scuffs consistent with domestic use (photos 1 and 3). The interior compartment and the underside of the lid sections exhibit prominent vertical white streaks and splashes of paint or an unidentified residue (photo 2). The metalwork shows some minor loss to the black finish, particularly around the hinges and latches (photo 1).
