Sold for: £290
A japanned style octagonal tilt-top wine table with a barley-twist pedestal. The piece features an octagonal top with a black lacquered ground, decorated with a central hand-painted polychrome floral arrangement in a footed vase, surrounded by flowing ribbons and a dotted border. The top is mounted on a central pedestal with a spiral barley-twist design, supported by a tripod base with three downswept legs terminating in brass-toned ball glides. A brass spring-loaded mechanism allows the top to tilt vertically for storage. No manufacturer marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the piece.
Condition report:
The painted decoration on the tabletop is heavily worn and faded, with visible paint loss and surface abrasions (photo 2). Each leg has had a repair and restoration. Several dark circular stains and scuffs are present on the top surface (photo 2). The edges of the octagonal top show chipping and finish loss (photo 1). The pedestal and legs exhibit general scuffing, scratches, and wear to the black lacquer finish (photo 3). The tilt-top mechanism and brass latch appear functional (photo 5 and 6).
