This auction ended on September 16, 2026.

Start price: £5

Estimated price: £5 - £10

Buyer's Premium: 20%

Sold for: £20

This lot comprises a Victorian style cast iron and wooden garden bench. The outdoor seat is constructed with a heavy cast iron frame featuring scrolled armrests and cabriole-style legs. The backrest incorporates a central openwork cast iron panel displaying a repeating pattern of stylised scrolling heart and foliate motifs, set within a painted wooden frame. The seat and top rail are composed of horizontal wooden slats. The ironwork is finished in a weathered green verdigris-effect paint, while the wooden components are finished in a dark charcoal grey paint. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the object.

Condition report:

The bench exhibits significant weathering consistent with prolonged outdoor exposure. The paint on the cast iron components is extensively chipped and peeling, particularly along the arms and legs, revealing the dark metal underneath (photo 1 and 2). The wooden slats show surface dirt, minor staining, and general wear to the paint finish (photo 1). General accumulation of garden debris and minor moss or algae growth is present in the crevices of the decorative ironwork (photo 1). The structure appears sound despite surface wear.
