A collection of approximately eighteen elephant figurines and decorative items in various materials including ceramic, resin, bone china, and wood. The lot includes a limited edition fine bone china collector’s plate titled The New Arrival from The Kensington Collection Treasures of the Wild series, dated 1996. The reverse of the plate features a printed mark comprising a crown symbol above a shield containing a stylised letter K, THE KENSINGTON COLLECTION, The New Arrival, From an original painting by artist, Gyula Vasarhelyi, exclusively for this collection, Treasures of the Wild, Signature Edition Plate No 1159 with the number handwritten in gold-toned ink, a signature for Gyula L. Vasarhelyi, Each plate individually numbered by hand with 22 carat gold, Fine Bone China made in England, in a worldwide limited edition of 9,500, © The Kensington Collection 1996, Decorative Art Object. The collection further comprises a large hollow-cast resin fountain sculpture depicting an elephant family by a rocky waterfall with a bird, featuring internal tubing for water flow. Glazed ceramic items include a large white elephant with gold-toned highlights, a stylised matte black elephant, and two elephant-form planters, one with an ornate basket-form holder. The assortment also contains a pair of wooden bookends mounted with red and gold caparisoned elephants, a resin figure of a monk riding an elephant, two small gold-toned metal figures, a carved stone style procession on a rectangular base, and a small resin dish with a basket-weave rim.
Condition report:
The collection is in generally good condition. A small chip is visible on the rim of the smaller black glazed elephant planter (photo 4). The large matte black elephant shows minor surface scuffs (photo 3). There is light surface wear and minor paint loss to the decorative details on the bookend elephants (photo 2). The resin fountain sculpture has accumulated dust in the textured crevices (photo 5). The Kensington Collection plate is in excellent condition with no visible chips or cracks (photo 8).
