A Federal style gilt metal spread-wing eagle wall plaque. This lot comprises a single wall-mounted ornament of cast metal construction with a textured gilt finish. The eagle is depicted with wings outspread and its head turned to the right, with the talons clutching a central striped shield and a flowing banner. The reverse is hollow-cast and features two integrated metal hanging loops. No manufacturer’s marks or signatures are visible on the piece.
Condition report:
The gilt finish displays significant wear and numerous chips, particularly concentrated along the wing edges and the head, which expose a white primer or substrate (photo 2). The reverse exhibits heavy surface oxidation, pitting, and general surface buildup (photo 3). The integrated metal hanging loops show signs of surface corrosion (photo 3).
