A collection of vintage postcards comprising approximately twenty four examples, including traditional British saucy seaside comics and topographical views. The comic cards feature exaggerated caricatures and double-entendre captions typical of the mid-20th century, with one card bearing the printed signature REX and others featuring serial numbers such as 12022, 736, and 11999. Notable captions include “I’m all ready for you-try and get it up as far as you can!” and “Mummy… you were wrong… it wasn’t my money this horrible brute married me for…”. The topographical section includes real photographic and lithographic prints of locations such as York Minster, Exeter Cathedral, Weston-Super-Mare, and the New Forth Road Bridge, alongside international views of the Hudson River, USA, and Vadheim, Norway. The cards are housed in a modern plastic-sleeved album with white polypropylene pages.
Condition report:
The collection is in good vintage condition. Several cards show minor bumping to the corners consistent with age (photo 1). Some topographical cards exhibit slight silvering or fading to the photographic surface, particularly visible on the West Bay beach view (photo 3). Minimal foxing is present on the margins of the older monochrome cards (photo 4). The modern album sleeves are intact and provide protection from handling wear.
