Sold

A large wall mirror of square form, designed for display in a diamond orientation. The frame is constructed from dark-stained wood, possibly oak, featuring a broad profile with a carved rope-twist or cable border along the inner aperture. Each of the four corners is decorated with an applied carved foliate boss resembling a stylized flower, centered by a large circular cabochon. The mirror plate features a wide bevelled edge. The reverse is of traditional construction with four mitred frame members and a central wooden backboard secured by metal sprigs. A heavy-duty metal hanging chain is attached to the upper section of the frame. The backboard bears an inscription in white chalk or grease pencil reading 2100 followed by an illegible word.

Condition report:

The mirror plate exhibits significant foxing and oxidative spotting, particularly concentrated around the edges and corners (photo 1). The wooden frame shows general surface wear, including scuffs, scratches, and minor indentations. There are visible losses to the dark-stained finish on the raised portions of the corner bosses and central cabochons (photo 2 and 3). The central wooden backing board has a vertical split or crack running through the middle (photo 4). The metal hanging chain shows signs of surface corrosion (photo 4).
