A collection of worldwide coins and banknotes featuring an assortment of denominations from various nations and periods. The lot includes a Barbados two dollar banknote, serial number H40625562, dated 1 May 2007, bearing the signature of Governor Marion Williams and a portrait of John Redman Bovell. Accompanying the paper currency is a group of cupro-nickel commemorative crowns, including three 1977 Silver Jubilee issues, one of which is housed in a hard plastic case with a printed label reading 1952 1977 H.M. QUEEN ELIZABETH II SILVER JUBILEE CROWN.
The assortment includes a 1944 one rupee coin from British India, a German 1968 1 Deutsche Mark, and a variety of British pre-decimal and decimal coinage such as pennies, halfpennies, sixpences, and ten pence pieces. Also present is a Decimal Day souvenir board dated 15th February 1971, which contains information regarding the United Kingdom’s transition to decimal currency. The coins are composed of various alloys including copper, cupro-nickel, and brass-coloured metals. Some pieces exhibit significant surface oxidation and toning.
Condition report:
The collection is in circulated condition throughout. The Barbados two dollar banknote shows multiple vertical and horizontal folds, light creasing, and minor edge wear (photo 1). The coins display varying degrees of wear, surface scratches, and contact marks consistent with circulation. Notable heavy green oxidation and dark toning are visible on several copper-alloy pieces, particularly a large penny and a smaller 1968 Deutsche Mark (photo 4). The commemorative crowns in plastic sleeves and the cased Jubilee crown appear to be in better condition with fewer surface marks (photo 3). The Decimal Day board shows some light edge wear and age-related yellowing (photo 1).
