A collection of silver and silver alloy coins comprising issues from the United Kingdom and Austria. The group is led by a large Austrian silver coin, inscribed M. THERESIA D. G. R. IMP. HU. BO. REG. on the obverse and ARCHID. AVST. DUX BURG. CO. TYR. 1780 X on the reverse. This coin features a portrait of Empress Maria Theresa and an Imperial double-headed eagle; it is likely a later restrike of the 1780 Maria Theresa Thaler. The collection also includes a British silver florin dated 1887, featuring the Jubilee Head portrait of Queen Victoria and a reverse with four crowned shields, inscribed VICTORIA DEI GRATIA and BRITT: REG: FID: DEF:. Further British silver coinage includes a one shilling coin dated 1902 with the portrait of King Edward VII, and several three-pence coins. These smaller denominations include examples dated 1915 and 1922 featuring King George V, and a 1940 example featuring King George VI with an oak sprig reverse. The coins exhibit various states of silver-toned patination and heavy circulation wear.
Condition report:
The coins all show signs of significant surface wear and circulation. The Maria Theresa Thaler and the Victoria florin exhibit heavy wear to the high points of the portraits and shields, with overall dulling of the original luster and dark toning in the recessed fields (photos 2, 3, 9, 10). The smaller silver three-pence and shilling coins show similar surface wear, minor scratches, and varied tarnish across both faces (photos 4-8, 11-14). No major edge nicks or gouges are immediately apparent from the provided images, though fine surface abrasions are present throughout the group.
