This lot comprises a group of three medals and associated service documentation relating to Cyril Frederick Fry. The collection includes a silver General Service Medal 1918-1962 with a crowned Elizabeth II effigy on the obverse and a standing figure of Victory on the reverse. The rim is impressed 23630245 SPR. C. F. FRY. R.E., indicating service as a Sapper in the Royal Engineers. The medal is fitted with an Arabian Peninsula clasp and a purple and green ribbon, housed in a white cardboard box. Also included is an Elizabeth II Imperial Service Medal, featuring the legend ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA F. D. and a reverse depicting a figure resting after labour with the inscription FOR FAITHFUL SERVICE. The rim is impressed CYRIL FREDERICK FRY. This medal is presented in a black leatherette Royal Mint case with a burgundy velvet and silk lining. A miniature version of the Imperial Service Medal is also present. Accompanying ephemera includes a green Certificate of National Service booklet numbered A 190945, an Army Form B108D Certificate of Service, a formal letter from St. James’s Palace dated 4th December 1998 signed by Anthony Mather, a presentation letter from Naval Base Commander J. Reeve dated 8th April 1999, and an insurance leaflet.
Condition report:
The group is in excellent condition. The General Service Medal retains its silver lustre and the Arabian Peninsula clasp is securely attached (photo 6). The Imperial Service Medal and its miniature are pristine, with the larger medal housed in its original case which shows only minor exterior scuffing (photo 11). The ribbons for all three medals are crisp and show no signs of fraying. The associated paperwork is well-preserved with typical filing folds but no significant tearing or staining (photo 1). The white cardboard box for the GSM shows light storage wear to the edges (photo 7).
